Rail Safety Week: April 25 to May 1
Did you know there are approximately 300 collisions and trespassing incidents in Canada involving railway crossings and tracks every year? These incidents result in the death or serious injury of nearly 130 people.
Vaughan Council is demonstrating its commitment to ensure the safety of Vaughan residents by supporting Rail Safety Week – April 25 to May 1 – an awareness campaign run by Operation Lifesaver. It’s designed to educate you and your family about avoiding accidents and keeping safe around railway tracks.
Don’t take chances around railway crossings and tracks. They are hazardous to pedestrians and cars. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always cross railway tracks at designated pedestrian or railway crossings
- Don’t use railway property, bridges or tunnels as shortcuts
- Don’t climb or walk around stopped trains – they can start moving at any time
- Remember to always think safety first when it comes to trains
